Yesterday was a very busy and full on day at uni! Gina was working on the sound while me and Rebecca were chopping the bits of video and putting them together. It needs lots of more work to be done on it and this is only half of the narrative.
Some of the feedback (that I can remember) was:
-The sound can be a bit overpowering
-In the beginning, the sound is overpowering but once you get into the story the visuals are very strong and they take over
-The presentation was interesting (we projected it on a semi-transparent material) and made it look like a performance piece

Summer work

During the summer I made a few notebooks using photocopy paper that has been printed on one side (left overs from my Business and Math A Level handouts) It would've been a waste throwing so much paper away so I decided to make something useful out of it!
There are two different types - ones that are bound with blue thread and the other type has a decorative ribbon around the cover. A5 size with 50 pages each.
They will be on sale at Handmade&Bound on the 20th November :)

Shooting stars

Things I learned during this project:
*How to edit videos in Quick time 7.
*How to combine Photoshop, Quick Time and iMovie going back and forth to create an animation.
*You can get software that tells you to have a break every hour.
*How to download youtube videos and combine them with animation in Photoshop
*Relaxing music is very beneficial when it comes to repetitive tasks
*Having 20 files with similar names in the same folder is a bad idea
*Always. (I repeat) Always save a .psd file with all layers of an animation edited in Photoshop
*I learned that 45 seconds is a long time..

Kaleidoscope

I found this tutorial-Kitchen roll kaleidoscope on a web site called mini-eco (which I love, because it aways has so many creative ideas!) and I decided to have a go at it too and made one myself :)

I can't wait to go back to university next week after the holidays, I've been doing lots of little collages in my moleskin but miss having real projects.

Contrast

For one of our last projects we had to design a logo with the theme "Contrast", starting with lots of sketches and then taking them into Illustrator.
I found it really challenging in the beginning but then I started to really enjoy playing around with colours and repeating simple shapes.

Home

I felt really inspired by this photograph and decided to make a drawing of the house :)

(The image is from Stella magazine)

Pinhole Camera

For this week's project we had to make our own pinhole/matchbox camera and take two sets of photos (a digital one for each film photo we take). I'm pretty sure we have to present the two sets on Monday morning so I made a PDF last night :)

Presentation

Bounce
I have to make a presentation in about 2 weeks time of all of the work I've done so far at uni and talk about it in front of the whole year group!!! :O
Freaking out a little because I'm nowhere near finished with it and I've been so so busy lately..
Uni's been quite good so far, we've had about 3 Typography workshops which were quite intense and I learned so much about typesetting, the anatomy of type and also how to use InDesign..
I have about 4 projects running alongside at the moment and Contextual Studies exam in a weeks time to  worry about... so yeah. *Taking a deep breath* Wish me luck!

Word pairs

One of the projects we had this week was a typography one and we had 5 different pairs of words each that we need to represent using typography on a piece of paper.
I thought about making the letters look like the word and then I decided to swap them around in each pair and this way they will actually be connected even if you move the words around the sheet of paper.

These are some quick sketches that I made :)

First Week in Epsom

Hello world!
It's been over a week now since I moved here. Last week I had a pre-entry course for 3 days and one of the tasks we had, was to make some sort of presentation showing the connection between a word (my group's word was 'Spiritual') and Epsom.
We found it really hard because we didn't want to go for the obvious solutions but at the same time there wasn't much going on in the city and so we got really stuck half way through.. We then decided that if we can't find anything spiritual then the best thing we can do is actually make our own marks and hidden messages. This is one of the videos we made in the park outside the university:

Dream catchers

I feel really uninspired lately and it really bugs me.. I'd like to start working on a project soon but I'm going to have to wait until mid-September when university starts.
Last week I really got into making 'Dream Catchers', they are quite popular in Brighton at the moment and I wanted to make my own version of the traditional ones. I used beads and lots of sparkly stars instead of leather and feathers..

The one in the left is mine, the middle one is for a friend and the last one I gave to my mother :)

Animation

Right, I decided to make an animation a while ago and started it but then i got the new version of Photoshop (SC5) and its not the "Extended" one so I couldn't edit videos the same way and that put me off... and then... anyway I've literally got 10sec of animation so far and no storyline whatsoever and also I'm starting to hate the whole idea altogether!

I dont know what to do with it... but one think I'm planning to do is to re-install the PS3 Extended again as maybe I will use it at university for video editing.
Yeah.. that is it.
