Private View

Today was the private view of our exhibition and it's pretty much a big thing! It's not my first ever show because I had one at the end of my Graphics A Level but this one is at a much higher quality and scale..
But I feel so ill... have a horrible cold and did not get to make the most of the viewing.. everyone is going out to celebrate tonight and I'm going to bed!
It's also a shame that this private view clashes with Epsom's grad show exhibition so I can't go even though I got an invite :/

Anyway here are some photos of my exhibition space:

exhibition

I think I could have definitely done better but didn't have enough time.. I missed about a week of college in the beginning of the FMP and never really managed to catch up completely. I just feel like there is something missing :/

Hummingbird

Been playing around with that pattern of mine and experimented by dying white thread using felt tip pens, its so easy and convenient! I used the colours of the rainbow here.

I'm a bit stuck at the moment.. dont know what I'm doing :( and I can't go into college to talk to tutors as the studios are being used for the exhibition...not long left anyway..
I also tried to tea-stain an old letter but that was an epic fail too haha I know how to do it properly now and might try again :)

Stitching

In the last couple of days I've been experimenting with paper embroidery making different geometric shapes and I looked at Evelin Kasikov's work and I also found an artist called Rebecca Ward, she uses electric tape in her installations and makes all of these really complex shapes using them..

Anyway, I started off by trying to add a twist to one of my photographs but then kept experimenting using the thread and needle instead.. I made some really interesting shapes that I thought would make a nice pattern and so I scanned it into Phtoshop to experiment with :)

This is the outcome ^ but I think it looks much better when its printed out. I might start doing something with the pattern and adding photographs on top of it now..
I need to have it all finished by Tuesday as this is when we start hanging the show! It's gonna be a long weekend...

Studio Photography

I had booked one of the studios at college to take photos of my 3D pieces as I was planning on including them into my FMP (as printed images) but I changed my mind last week and decided to have it as a 3D installation on the wall instead, alongside some more images..

mountains to climb..
It's getting really exciting! I am going to have this piece on the wall plus 2 more big images, plus one really small framed typography piece and I'm also working on 2 more mixed media images at the moment.. don't know for sure which ones will be actually included in the exhibition but I'm still going to keep experimenting and try to improve them.

We are painting the boards tomorrow and the hanging of the exhibition is next week so I should try and finish everything over the weekend hopefully :D

Weekend off?

I decided to take the weekend off (college work) as I've been in 9am-6pm almost every single day in the last 3 weeks... sooo exhausting!
Here is some work in progress that I did this afternoon :)

typewriter family

Some of the photos I took today.. the intention of the whole Final MAjor project I had was to be converting 3D images into 2D photos and add text to them so I'm finally getting to do some 3D work.. It doesn't mean anything, just messing about at the moment but hopefully I'll find a strong concept soon and stick to it. :)

FMP initial ideas..

turning points
Using a photograph of my mum as a child and some calendar photos of mountains..
You can download the typeface used (which I made) here but I still haven't finished working on it so there's no punctuation marks and the upper-case looks pretty weird too..

PostCode

Some initial type experiments for my FMP,I found a lot of old, Russian postcards over my grandparents and on the back of them they all have a special grid where you write the post code ...I decided to see if I can create a typeface using it..
